There are speaking parts for 36 with the opportunity to increase these to 48 by having ten angels rather than five, eight travellers rather than four, and six shepherds rather than three – allocating the lines accordingly. To decrease the number of speaking parts, you can have fewer than four narrators and just two travellers. There can be just one donkey (taking both donkey 1 and 2’s lines) and sheep 4’s lines can be covered by sheep 1, 2 or 3. Three children can double up as the camels and the sheep. There is opportunity for many others to be (non-speaking) additional angels, shepherds, sheep, stable animals, travellers, innkeepers and townspeople.
