Busy Bethlehem is being well and truly looked after by The Fleece Force, who are keeping the peace and making sure that only those who are there for the census are let in! However, this proves harder than anticipated as the nativity story unfolds and shepherds, kings and angels amongst others turn up. It’s a lot for Constable Woolly, who is new to the job, but Constable Jumper is on hand to join the dots and lead them all to the stable and the newborn King.

What’s so exciting about this nativity are the new personalities your classes will love to bring to life – we’ve got Chief Fleecy, in charge of The Fleece Force, Constable Jumper, whose laid-back approach is not always appreciated by the others, and brand-new to the force is Constable Woolly, who makes it her business to keep Bethlehem on the straight and narrow! Character List & Staging Suggestions
There are speaking parts for 30 children, but these can be increased to 80+ by splitting the narrators’ lines, Police Sheep 1-6’s lines and the shepherds’ lines between a large number of children. There are lots of essential non-speaking parts – citizens, passers-by and extra visitors, innkeepers and angels to sing their designated verses in Songs 2, 3 and 4.
If you have a small cast, the 30 speaking parts can easily be decreased to 20 using the following suggestions:
- Have just one narrator
- Police Sheep 1, 2, 3 & 4 double up as Angel Gabriel, Angels 1-2 and a camel
- The two visitors double up as two shepherds and they take all the shepherds’ lines between them
- Innkeeper 1 doubles up as a camel
The essential non-speaking parts necessary for the songs can be doubled up by anyone not needed in those scenes as their own character, or the whole cast could sing each song. Toy sheep could be used by the shepherds for the non-speaking sheep up on the hills of Bethlehem.
